A few Saturday mornings ago, I met with my aunt downtown, to catch-up and do some shopping. The plan was to have breakfast, and then hit up the mall. Being in the process of redecorating our bedroom, I needed to find a new comforter or duvet, and some throw pillows to match the new paintings we put up on the bedroom walls. Since Nickel’s was in the mall, it seemed like a good idea to go there for breakfast.
Nickel’s has a pretty diverse breakfast menu; they have pancakes, waffles, all sorts of crepes, omelets, bagel sandwiches, and the familiar breakfast combo of eggs, home-fries, and your choice of bacon, sausage, ham, or all three if you’re really hungry. It was a tough decision, but I chose the Western Omelet; it had green and red peppers, onions and ham. The omelet also came with a side of home-fries, fresh fruit and toast. The omelet was huge, it was cooked perfectly, and the home-fries were so good. I knew I had no business eating that many, but they were goldeny/fried/perfection. My only complaint was that there was way too much ham in my omelet. All that ham overpowered the other flavors in the omelet, and made it a bit salty as well. Anyway, ham issue aside – I enjoyed my breakfast, with the exception of the coffee. Not. Good. It tasted old and burnt. For a place like Nickel’s, where the food is usually on point, I was surprised at how bad the coffee was.
I’d definitely return to Nickel’s for breakfast, and will try something different next time. Mental note to get coffee elsewhere that day.
