“Every planet has its comfort zones — signs in which its traits are most welcome, and others where they are ill fitted. Mars, the planet of initiative and assertion, is at home in Aries, Scorpio, and Capricorn, where it’s exalted. It is not at home in Libra, where it will be from November 12, 2015, to January 3, 2016.
The powers of a planet are strengthened in supportive signs, where their characteristics align with the fundamental function of the sign. However, a planet is considered to be weaker when it is in a sign opposing one of its home bases, as is the case with Mars in Libra.
It is tempting to take the easy way out by simply describing the difficulties expected when Mars is in Libra. The spontaneity, independence, directness and passion of the planet may be harder to come by during its stay in this gracious, accommodating, partner-seeking and intellectual sign.
Mars in Libra is a bad fit from the perspective of traditional Astrology. It diminishes the power of this muscular planet, and it exposes rough edges that disturb the harmony of this peace-loving sign. These ideas, although they have truth in them, are incomplete expressions of the meaning and potential of this transit. Putting together contrasting principles does, of course, increase complexity. It’s challenging to be single-minded and socially sensitive at the same time.”
