Sun in Capricorn + Winter Solstice; Dec. 21st, 2016 ❄☀♑

Our guiding light begins its climb from darkness into light on December 21st in the Northern Hemisphere. At this very mystical time, the Sun seems to stand still at the Tropic of Capricorn, then reverses its direction as it reaches its southernmost declination of -23.5 degrees, giving just 7 hours and 49 minutes of daylight. The dark triumphs but only briefly. Today, Light is reborn.

“This time of year is associated with light — string lights, sparklers and of course, candles. The timeless traditions during the dark season are thought to be an attempt to balance out the sunless gloom of winter. The lights are reminders of our inner light, and hope for the return of sunny days.”Molly Hall

December 21st also marks the Sun’s transition to ambitious Capricorn, putting our biggest goals front and center until January 20th, 2017. Capricorn is one of the Zodiac’s three Earth Signs and part of the Cardinal quality. Cardinal signs (Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) begin every season and can come across as bossy leadership-driven and pioneering.

Responsible Capricorn is all about getting shit done, so it’s no surprise we make our New Year’s resolutions under these sunbeams.  Saturn (Cap’s planetary ruler) teaches us discipline, patience and endurance but but its shadow side can trigger self-doubt or pessimism. Determined Capricorn’s biggest struggle is getting so caught up in the daily grind, they forget time for fun. I mean, it’s a little too early to dive in to get-down-to-business mode!

Happy Holidays dear readers! May the spirit of the season fill you with all the hope, love and joy you can stand!

Happy Solar Return, Capricorn! xoxo
